Smog: Is it worse than in previous years?

If you live in Southern California, especially, you know that smog is normally a daily part of your life. There are exceptions in beach areas and very close to the water where the smog (air pollution) is minimal or possibly non existent.

I have read and heard on TV many times over the years that smog is less now than it was many years ago. That may well be true, but at my home in Lake Elsinore it is definitely worse than it was when I moved here some 20 years ago. Maybe the measurement could be better, but definitely there are more days with noticeable smog than in previous years. Just guesstimating maybe there are 75% smoggy days now. When I first moved here I estimate there were a maximum of 25% or less smoggy days.

My experience here at my location seems to defy what I hear on TV that the smog situation is much better now than in past years. From my vantage point I can see the smog creeping between the hills right through Lake Elsinore most of the time. It is coming from north in which Corona is the nearest city.

If you live in Lake Elsinore it is pretty difficult to see where the smog is originating, but from my vantage point coming from Hemet daily for over ten years It is usually quite noticeable, especially when closer to the city that there is a fairly clear path through the valleys. One can see the smog path clearly on many days.

How about you, wherever you live, does it seem like there is more smog or air pollution now than in the past?
